Dangerous sells 70% stake to Zodiak

Extending its presence in the UK, international media group Zodiak Entertainment has acquired 70% of Dangerous in an exciting move heralding a strong future for the London-based indie.

Part of the De Agostini Group, Zodiak has more than 30 production companies in 18 territories and boasts an international distribution network based in London and Paris.

Zodiak will distribute Dangerous’s content globally in a deal that sees company executives Mike Kemp, Richard Dale, Tim Goodchild and Peter Parnham staying in position.

Director of Creative Content Richard Dale said although Dangerous had done well as a small indie, it had always harboured ambitions to be part of a bigger group.

“Mostly it’s to do with strategic connections,” he said. “A bigger company provides more clout and when you talk about co-productions, big companies prefer to speak to big companies. Zodiak can help us in other territories - it has a great position in France, for example.”

Launched in 2003, Dangerous has won an international reputation for high-end factual dramas and series, including D-Day 6.6.1944; 9/11: The Twin Towers and Moonshot. In 2009 the company produced Rocketmen, its first theatric release.

Zodiak chief executive Lorenzo Pellicioli said Dangerous significantly enhanced Zodiak’s documentary catalogue. “We were looking for someone that would be the jewel of our factual offering and see Dangerous as a flagship production company in this field.”
